The agent of Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini has suggested that Chelsea are interested in approaching him to replace Carlo Ancelotti in the managerial hot-seat at Stamford Bridge.
Roman Abramovich moved to sack Carlo Ancelotti just hours after the club’s 1-0 defeat to Everton last Sunday, with the Italian paying the price for ending the season without a trophy, despite securing a domestic double last year.
With the club searching for their fifth manager since Jose Mourinho’s departure, a number of high-profile coaches have had their names in the frame, and Pellegrini’s agent Jesus Martinez has suggested his client is a candidate for the role.
“It is normal for clubs without a coach, such as Chelsea through intermediaries, to start asking Pellegrini, but he is very comfortable at Malaga and has a contract there,” he told Cooperative, a Chilean radio station.
With Malaga recently the subject of a takeover by Qatari Sheik Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani, Martinez insists Pellegrini is focussed on his role at the Spanish side.
“He has put a lot of effort into Malaga and is pleased and excited to work with the team.”
