Freetown — UNFPA Country Representative in Sierra Leone, Madam Ratidzai Ndlovu, has congratulated the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat (NAS) for the successes gained in the HIV/AIDS national response, particularly the credit for the MDG HIV Award and the National Jubilee Award of Excellence.
“This to me is an indication of the success of the national response,” she stated.
Madam Ndlovu made this statement on Tuesday 10th May, 2011 at the opening ceremony of the consultative workshop on country ownership for a Sustainable HIV/AIDS Response at Mamba Point Hotel in Freetown
The UNFPA Country Representative also articulated that the UN response at country level is delivered through a joint UN programme of support on HIV/AIDS in harmony with the Agenda for Change and the UN joint vision for Sierra Leone, adding that the UN response identifies the work to be undertaken by UN agencies.
She however noted that all outcomes would be achieved through working in partnership with government, civil society organisations, multilateral and bilateral organisations and their implementing agencies.
“I am aware that NAS has set the stage for country ownership for sustainability as it provides dynamic leadership and coordination of the national response. I believe this consultative workshop will bring out a consolidated approach to determine a more robust drive towards a sustainable national response,” she underscored.
Madam Ndlovu reiterated the commitment of the UN theme group on HIV/AIDS in providing both financial and technical support to the achievement of a sustainable national HIV/AIDS response.
On behalf of the UN theme group on AIDS, she thanked all for their commitment to the AIDS response in Sierra Leone.
