Individuals believed to be robbers broke into the offices of The Informer Newspaper last Thursday night (May 12) and made away with several valuables including computer and television sets.
The robbers burglarized the offices, situated on the 1st Floor of Caesar’s Building (corner of Carey and Johnson Streets), and raided it after the paper had gone to bed and everyone had left for home.
The criminals damaged the main entrance of the Caesar’s Building (breaking through and steel gate) before also destroying a steel hanging lock and a padlock to the only entrance of the offices of the Informer.
They took away three computer monitors, but left behind the CPU (center processing unit) of the main computers.
There are more than 20 offices in the building, but no other was affected.
“This burglary is shocking and frustrating,” Informer managing Editor Darkollie Sumo said. “They left all the other offices and raided ours. It looks like an organized crime…a sabotage operation.”
He said despite the blow, “I can assure the public, our many readers and customers, that we are not deterred. We will continue to appear on the newsstand and serve our country.”
“We remain focused. We thank God that our major CPUs were not tampered with, and once we have them, no matter what, we will not be missing from the newsstand,” Mr. Sumo declared with confidence.
Meanwhile, the Metro Police on Center Street is investigation the incident. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Police visited the crime scene Friday morning as part of the continuing investigation.
