Luanda — The Portuguese minister of Environment and Territory Arrangement, Dulce Pássaro, on Tuesday in Luanda advocated that governments must understand that there is no real development without the preservation of the environment.
Speaking to ANGOP, moments after arriving in Luanda, where she is attending on 24-25 May the meeting of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) on residues management, Dulce Pássaro said it is necessary that governments keep pace with the great environmental concerns of the world, such as climate changes and preservation of biodiversity.
She explained that Europe’s strategy rests on four pillars, namely economic development, environmental sustainability, innovation and knowledge, plus social cohesion.
She manifested her satisfaction at the fact that most African countries nowadays have an environment minister, which to her a sign pointing to the valorisation of a model of sustainable development.
“I think the first sign is to have an environment minister and have in the council of ministers a voice that defends environmental matters” she stressed.
Happening under the theme “Taking care of residues, defending the future”, the CPLP meeting will try to find solutions to the problems of residues management in this community, in light of the experiences of each state and the technological innovations.
The gathering will debate topics like “Innovating solutions for residues”, “integrated and sustained management of residues”, “quality of water” and “Private sector at the service of environmental planning”.
The meeting is being attended by CPLP officials, Angolan MPs, representatives of the diplomatic body, private and public companies.
