Nigeria: Adedoja Calls for Peace in Local Football

MINISTER of Sports, Professor Taoheed Adedoja has called on warring parties in Nigerian football circles to adopt peaceful means of crisis resolution.

He stated that the creation of a parallel football governing body in Nigeria would not solve the problems of football in the country but rather add to it as strengthening the existing body remains the sure way to help soccer development in the country.

“The creation of a parallel body will not solve the problem on ground but rather it will compound the situation, declared Adedoja.

A group of football stakeholders inspired by National Association of Nigerian Footballers, NANF president, Harrison Jalla have threatened to set up another football association that will run the affairs of football in the country since the constitution of Nigeria does not recognize the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF. The Football stakeholders as they are called have already published the names of the interim board of the NFA which has former vice chairman aspirant in the last NFF election Jaret Tenebe as the interim chairman and will be unveiled to the public in Abuja on Saturday according to a press statement from the group.

Adedoja in a dialogue with brilafm.net then called on everyone involved to unite for the common goal of making football better.

“This is not what we need at the moment, breaking away cannot stop the rot but helping the current board find its bearing, we must come together to fight this course of reviving Nigeria football”, he summed up.
