Luapula Development Takes Root

Luapula Province Minister Besa Chimbaka has said the construction of Milenge Boarding High School at a cost of K26 billion and a district hospital at K4.5 billion are a mark of Government’s determination to ensure the province was developed.

Mr Chimbaka said the Government was focused on delivering development to the province as could be proved through the various projects being undertaken in the area.

He said this last weekend at Mashika Village in Chief Sokontwe’s area when he addressed scores of people during his inspection of development projects in Milenge.

Mr Chimbaka said when completed, the infrastructure under construction in the district would create a number of employment opportunities for the local people.He said the MMD Government had continued to enjoy a lot of support and appealed to the people of Luapula Province to vote for the ruling party and President Rupiah Banda.

And addressing a well-attended gathering at Milenge grounds, Mr Chimbaka said he was grateful to the people in the area for cooperating with and supporting the Government.

He said the concerns over the lack electricity in Milenge would soon be addressed, more so that the district would require hydro-electric power as it expands.The Government is also building a trades training institute in Milenge District.

Meanwhile, Milenge District Commissioner Rosemary Malutu said when Mr Chimbaka paid a courtesy call on her at her office that the people in the district were happy with the development projects taking root in the area.

Ms Malutu cited some of the major projects as the ongoing construction of Milenge Boarding High School, completion of a civic centre building at K500 million and the putting up of the district hospital, which is in phase one.

She said the outpatient department at Lwela Rural Health Centre was being repaired while the maternity annex was being extended at a cost of K145 million.

Ms Malutu said assembling of a pontoon at Kapalala, which would create a shorter route to link Milenge and the Copperbelt Province via Sakanya was also progressing well.

Milenge District, with a population of 44,000 people, was established in 1997 and is located in the south-eastern part of Luapula Province.
