Karti Says Nation, Egypt Agree to Formulate Joint Visions on Trade

Cairo — The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Karti, Thursday held talks in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Nabil Al-Arabi, focusing on political and economic cooperation and coordination in a number of regional and international files, specially the file of the water at the Nile Basin.

Karti said in a statement to the press after his talks with his Egyptian counterpart that they discussed means of continuing the cooperation on joint political and economic issues as well as the earlier action plan on water and forward it to the country of the regionMeanwhile, the minister referred to what he described as good Egyptian movements that resulted in good agreement with Uganda and Ethiopia in this connection, explaining that they agreed to go ahead in this approach.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs revealed that a committee of the Cabinet’s Economic Sector will pay a visit to Cairo next week to continue the talks on the economic cooperation infields of agriculture, industry and trade, adding that a businessmen delegation will accompany the committee in order to meet the Egyptian businessmen sector, concerned ministries as well as companies.

Karti explained that a joint Sudanese – Egyptian committee assigned with the issue of the four freedoms will meet in Khartoum on May 22, revealing that he agreed with his Egyptian counterpart to propose joint visions by the two sides on the movement of trade and border points.

“We review ideas about what can be proposed by the two parties on the issue of Halaib in a total cooperative atmosphere,” said the MinisterThe Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, on his part, said that the bilateral relations with Sudan are in their best conditions and will continue to grow steadily according to joint cooperation, saying that the disputable Halaib area will be turned into an area of joint investments.

Regarding the upcoming visit of the members of the Security Council to Sudan, the minister explained that it is a routine visit to the region, but not only to Sudan, saying that the delegation will get informed about the post-referendum issues and the outcome of the latest talks between the North and South Sudan.
