Wolves’ Stephen Hunt: Players thought we were down at half-time

Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt has revealed that the club’s players thought they were doomed at half-time on Sunday when they found themselves 3-0 down against Blackburn Rovers.

Goals from Jamie O’Hara and Hunt sealed the club’s safety on goal difference despite the defeat.

Hunt’s last minute goal sparked incredulous scenes at Molineux and the midfielder revealed the players didn’t think they would be staying up after their disastrous first half.

He told the club’s official website: “It didn’t look like we were going to survive at half-time.

“Luckily we all stuck at it and I was just delighted to be able to come up with a goal. I was on for a hat trick relegations and it looked doomed again at half time.

“But we managed to stick in there and were mentally strong and got back in the game.”

The club managed to stay up because of defeats to Birmingham City and Blackpool and the Irish midfielder reveals it was disappointing to lose their last game of the season but equally pleased that they managed to survive in the league.

He added: “It’s still disappointing to lose at home on the final day of the season so it’s a bit of a fortunate base to build from.

“We have to learn from it, carry on and start next season as well as we’ve played in the last few games before this one.

“Of course we would have taken getting beat and staying up so we still have to enjoy the moment.

“Everyone has battled to the very end and it’s gone to the 90^th minute of the last game and there has to be sympathy for Blackpool and Birmingham.”
