Uganda: Sc Villa Will Spend Pounds After Al Wasl Deal

SC Villa will spend heavily in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen the squad ahead of a new season that should revive the ‘good old days’ at the club.

On Friday, Sheikh Sowaid Sultan Hamid -an executive member with United Arab Emirates top club Al Wasl met with Villa president Fred Muwema to discuss a likely partnership that will see the Dubai-based club invest massively in Uganda’s most successful club.

Apart from funding a $10m (sh24b) stadium at the club and marketing of players, Al Wasl will bankroll a summer spending spree.

When Sheikh Soawid met SC Villa coach Srdjan Zivojnov at the club’s headquarters in Muyenga (as seen in pictures right), its reported that Sowaid asked Srdjan to set up a team that would deliver the club the club out of the dark days of failure and achieve the dream of silverware.

The fact that Villa, 16-time league champions, have failed to win a league title since 2004 makes the challenge all the more appetizing for Srdjan and the club’s hierarchy.

“Among the club’s others plans is setting up a powerful academy but that will not stop us from buying players. We will allow the youth come through but there will also have to be a balance with experience,” Muwema stated yesterday.

“We will need a balanced side to compete favourably at home and the continent in the future,” he added.

“It’s all part of our five-year plan that looked at transforming this club from amateur to professional standards.”

Muwema is expected to meet the Al Wasl board in Dubai later next month.
