A snake charmer, who specialises in using his snakes to dupe unsuspecting members of the public, was yesterday sentenced to one month imprisonment by an Abuja Magistrate’s Court for inducing two of his victims and defrauding them of money and other valuables.

Saidu Ibrahim of no fixed address was convicted for cheating, an offence contrary to Section 322 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Abdullahi Adamu informed the court that on May 22, Friday Babatunde and Uchenna Okoye jointly reported to the police that while they were at Wuse Bus stop, the accused used his snake to induce them, adding that in the process, the accused fraudulently collected a hand-chain valued at N6,000, a handset of N14,000 and N7,500 from them.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

Magistrate Aminu Eri sentenced the accused to one month imprisonment or to pay a fine of N200.
