Newly appointed Swindon Town manager Paolo di Canio has stated that he wants to set up a link with AC Milan so they Italian giants can send their young players on loan to the League Two outfit.

The Italian was being unveiled at a press conference on Monday afternoon when he suggested that he had spoken with Milan’s vice-president Adriano Galliani about sending some youth players to Swindon.

He told reporters: “I spoke with Adriano Galliani, the chairman of AC Milan, and I asked him jokingly to give me some players.

“He said ‘seriously come to meet me for young talented players’, so hopefully we can start collaboration with him.”

The Italian also suggested that Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp would be willing to help by sending youth players to the club.

This is Di Canio’s first managerial job since retiring from professional football in 2008 and the former West Ham player admits he is excited by the prospect of starting his managerial career at Swindon.

He said: “I’m not nervous, I’m happy. I have to thank Swindon Town because they are giving me a first chance.

“For me, I’m starting a new career. I’m a manager, not a footballer anymore. I’m sure about my knowledge, I’m sure about my understanding of football but of course you start thinking about how you’re going to start, because you have to start well.

“It’s important to choose the right place. I want to have success, I want to win and this is the best place.”
