David Beckham says he cannot wait to put on a Manchester United shirt again when he returns to Old Trafford for Gary Neville’s testimonial match against Juventus on Tuesday evening.
The former England captain enjoyed the most successful chapter of his illustrious career for the Red Devils, forming part of the now legendary ‘Class of 92’ with the likes of the Neville brothers, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs which won 15 major honours prior to Beckham’s departure for Real Madrid in 2003.
The 36-year-old LA Galaxy midfielder is looking forward to being back in familiar company at Old Trafford, and predicts it will be a very special occasion.
“Putting a United shirt on again never gets old,” Beckham told MLSsoccer.com.
“I get goose bumps every time I think about stepping out at Old Trafford again, as does walking out on the pitch.
“To be able to do that for Gary and his family means it is going to be an emotional night.”
Beckham also paid tribute to close friend and former team-mate Neville, whose testimonial comes after a 19-year career with the Red Devils.
“I played with him for so many years,” he added. “We were room-mates, he was best man at my wedding and he is one of my best friends. I am looking forward to seeing him play. After a few months of not playing and training, that will be interesting.
“Gary is still so dedicated. It is the reason why he has achieved so much in his career and why United fans love him. He is a great home-grown talent which United are famous for producing.
“He always gave me a lot of advice over the years – the majority of which was good.
“He is such a talent and hard worker. He really deserves this night.”
