Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore praises Blackpool as ‘a breath of fresh air’

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has praised Ian Holloway‘s Blackpool side as a “breath of fresh air”.

Ian Holloway had previously suggested that the Premier League would be relieved to see the back of his side, a claim that Scudamore was swift to refute.

“They’ve been a breath of fresh air, they’ve come up on sporting merit and played positively, therefore they deserve it,” Scudamore told BBC Sport.

“If on Sunday they still deserve that place they’re welcome to stay.”

Blackpool could be relegated this weekend when they face already crowned champions Manchester United, though Holloway has said Sir Alex Ferguson has earned the right to pick a weakened side ahead of their crucial clash.

“Sir Alex Ferguson is a winner. He would never dream of not being interested in winning any match,” said Holloway.

“That man deserves to pick whatever team he wants to pick. No one should question it.”

With two relegation slots still open and with just one point separating Blackpool, Wolves, Blackburn, Wigan and Birmingham it is set to be a dramatic final day of the Premier League season.
