The Cross River State chairman of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, Mr. Effiom Bassey, said on Friday that music could be used to empower youths, as to well as curb unemployment in Nigeria.
Bassey said there was the need to educate and empower the youths and musicians, as a measure to check the increase in the number of school dropouts in the country.
He noted that the state chapter of the association planned to host a week-long event in Calabar, which would be aimed at educating up-and-coming music artistes and celebrating distinguished musicians and music promoters.
He said, “The week-long event will offer new talents in the state a unique platform to network and learn from top musicians and music managers in a workshop on song writing, music production, image branding, stage attitude, stage management, and music marketing with a focus on the socio-economic development of talented youths in the state and Nigeria at large.”
The state chairman stressed that over the past years, he had received several complaints from parents whose children/wards had dropped out of school for music, hence the need to re-orientate them and the over 5,000 members of the association in the state, including youths nursing the ambition of starting a career in music.
