Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney has been warned by the FA following a comment he posted to a follower on Twitter.

After being provoked, the striker wrote: “I’ll put u asleep within 10 seconds” to a user but later dismissed the event as nothing serious.

Subsequently, the FA have written a letter to the England international to remind him of his conduct.

On Friday, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted the club are discussing whether to ban their players from using the social networking website.

“I don’t know why anybody could be bothered with that stuff,” said Ferguson.

“It’s a waste of time. Get yourself down to a library and read a book. We as a club are looking at Twitter because there can be issues attached to it and we don’t want that.”
