Tamale, May 20, GNA – A retired civil servant on Friday cautioned Assembly members against fighting over the citing of projects in their communities and rather galvanise their energies for the total development of their districts.
Mr Slyvester Adongo, a retired Northern Regional Director of Agriculture, said the fight among assembly members for projects to be cited in their electoral areas has often brought about unnecessary delays in the execution of projects and derailed the general development of the district.
Mr Adongo was speaking at a two-day orientation workshop for members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly in Tamale on Friday.
Mr Adongo said assembly members should not to restrict their activities to their electoral areas alone but also seek the overall development of the Metropolis by liaising with non-governmental organizations and other development partners to undertake projects.
Mr Simon Bokor of the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) said over 8000 assembly members from the 170 assemblies nationwide were expected to benefit from the orientation workshop.
Alhaji Abudulai Harruna Friday, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, urged new assembly members to learn from their older colleagues.
