UTH Embarks On K2.3 Billion Wards Rehab

The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has embarked on K2.3 billion rehabilitation project of wards with the aim of providing good quality health to Zambians.

The rehabilitation of wards E21 and 22 has consequently led to congestion at the hospital.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, UTH spokesperson Pauline Mbangweta said the institution was in the process of rehabilitating the hospital infrastructure with the aim of improving the type of service being offered at the institution.

She said the rehabilitations currently taking place would transform the hospital into an ultra- modern facility that would be better placed to provide quality health to the Zambians.

Ms Mbangweta said the rehabilitation has started with the rehabilitation of all low- cost wards beginning with the E ward.

She said the rehabilitation works which were being done in stages would take up to 24 weeks to be completed.

Ms Mbangweta also said UTH had procured four elevators at a cost of K2.6 billion to be installed in strategic posts to ease the movement of patients and staff at the institution.

She said most facilities at the hospital had been prone to vandalism because of the large number of people that frequented the institution but stated that the hospital would soon be fitted with modern equipment that could not be easily vandalised.

She has since called on residents of Lusaka to utilise the clinics in their areas to reduce congestion which could be created as a result of the closure of some wards for rehabilitation works.
