Calabar — The manager of the post presidential amnesty camp in Obubra, established for the demobilisation of former Niger Delta militants, Ekpein Appah, has been suspended indefinitely.
The suspension followed statement credited to him that the Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, is harbouring, John Togo, leader of the Niger-Delta Liberation Force (NDLF).
Appah’s suspension was announced on Thursday by the Presidential Amnesty Office, through its Head, Media and Communication, Henry Ugbolue.
A text of the announcement given to Daily Independent in Calabar read in part: “The attention of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Hon Kingsley Kuku, has been drawn to a newspaper publication wherein one of the senior staff of the Presidential Amnesty Programme’s Demobilisation Camp in Obubra, Mr. Ekpein Appah, accused His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, the Governor of Bayelsa State of harbouring the wanted militant leader, John Togo.
“In the publication, Mr. Appah further challenged the governor of Bayelsa State to produce the dissident whom he claimed has taken up residence in the Bayelsa State Government House”.
“Hon. Kuku wishes to dissociate the Amnesty Office and the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta from this unguarded, grossly irresponsible, and utterly distasteful comment by Mr. Appah”.
