Fiila Clocks Two

The hit television show on The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), FII LA is set to clock two years the end of May 2011.

After two years fascinating and entertaining series on the state media, Fiila team is celebrating its second year anniversary, as was done last year, in grand style on two nights of unlimited entertainments and at two venues.

To mark the event, on 27th May 2011, all roads will lead to Jakarlo Spy Bar and tickets will be D75 before 11 pm (with a free Africell sim card and a free bottle of Youki) while on Saturday 28th May 201, Brikama Jokor will be set ablaze with tickets tagged at D50 flat. Fiila is independently produced by Mediamatic and Black Lynx, and the forces behind it are the same talented youngsters who introduced the monthly ‘Open Mic’ as well as the annual ‘Open Mic Festival’, which is designed to unearth and bring to limelight the country’s hidden talents. To be precise, the initiative, which started in May 2009, has been one of the most popular and watched shows on GRTS.

It is watched by both the young and old, male and female and has brought a lot of talents to the forefront and directly on our TV sets. The show even though centres more on entertainment also deals with a lot of social issues relevant to the society and when it airs weekly on Monday night at 10; 30 pm on GRTS, people of different ages are glued to their television screens to watch this fascinating entertainment showpiece. ‘FII LA’ which is a word is derived from the local Wollof language meaning ‘It’s Here’, depicting and promoting home made talent and resources is brought to our TV screens by two formidable presenters who are accomplished media personalities namely, Francis Abdul Malik Mendy aka XMYLS and Mam Malen Njie aka Blacka Shine.

The organisers, however, also promised to unleash great things on these two nights and are calling on the general public to make it a date to be part of the thrilling birthday bass. In observance of the second year anniversary, they promise to bring Fiila from the TV screens to live and in living colour in front of the public. The events will feature performances from some of Gambia’s finest sensations such as, T Smallz, ENC, Badibunka, Killa Ace, Tam 50, E-Nyassi, the Ghetto Superstar, Manding Morry, Benjamin from Brikama and the melodic voice Jali Madi among a lots more and these artists will be backed by Humanity Band (Red Cross Band.

Meanwhile, Fiila team has also added another twist to this fun-filled weekend of events by urging everyone to bring along Gambian flags. As mentioned by Waagan, ‘what a beautiful site it would be to see both venues jam packed with people and all you see is red white blue white green. That is a site to behold’ so come out and be a part of these history making events and play your part in taking Gambian music to new heights. I don’t think anyone can deny the value that Fiila has added not only to GRTS but also to the Gambia as a nation, the lives of the viewers and fans by entertaining and educating us weekly not to mention the artists that are featured on the program and the whole music scene at large. All we, the general public, can do is come out in our thousands to both nights and venues with our Gambian flags to show our gratitude, enjoy the shows and say our thanks to the whole Fiila team”.
