Edward Graham, the former managing director of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) was on Thursday 19th May 2011 arraigned and charged with two criminal offences, at the Banjul Magistrates Court presided over by acting Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe.
On count one, the accused is charged with abuse of office contrary to Section 90 (1) of the Criminal Code 10 Volume lll Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009. The particulars of offence revealed that the accused between the months of January and December 2010 at Banjul and other places in The Gambia being employed in the public service as managing director of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation abused the authority of his office and directed to be done arbitrary act to wit: He directed Omar Sarr to employ Ancha Jammeh as Finance Manager of Home Finance Company (Gambia) Limited, which is prejudicial to the right of Home Finance Company and thereby committed an offence.
On count two he is changed with economic crimes contrary to Section 5 (g) of the economic (specified offences) Act Volume lll Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009. The particulars of the offence stated that the accused between the months of January and December 2010 at Banjul in The Gambia being employed in the public service as managing director of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation, willfully caused the loss of D73,000 to Home Finance Company (Gambia) Limited and thereby committed an offence. The presiding magistrate ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody, while calling on the defence to make a formal bail application.
The case was adjourned to 23rd May 2011.
