New research released today by the makers of Football Manager suggests the perfect boss would be a 51-year-old Scotsman who has also previously played the game at a professional level.
The research shows that managers are most successful when they are aged 51 and five months, while Scotland is home to six current Premier League bosses.
The dress sense of those on the touchline has also come under scrutiny in recent years, with a suit as worn by Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho the suggested attire for the perfect manager, according to the research.
The perfect image has also been assembled by researchers from the physical features of a number of top flight managers, with the Premier League’s ‘most stylish’ boss Roberto Mancini providing the body, while Carlo Ancelotti’s greying locks topped off the head.
The protruding chin of England boss Fabio Capello is combined with Harry Redknapp’s nose and Sir Alex Ferguson’s forehead, with Blackpool boss Ian Holloway providing the mouth.
Miles Jacobson, studio director for the Football Manager franchise, commented: “Scottish managers such as the legendary Fergie, George Graham and Kenny Dalglish have enjoyed great success in all competitions.
“Given that the perfect manager is most successful at age 51, younger Scottish managers including Everton’s David Moyes (48) and Malky McKay (39) should bide their time, while Alex McLeish recently won his first big trophy at 52.
“The image we have created of the ideal manager is an amusing – if rather freaky – composite, and we expect to see him prowling the touchlines in seasons to come! Budding football managers can improve their chances of becoming a top boss on the move with the new iPad version of Football Manager.”
