Jason Petrus has become the first Namibian to achieve International Boxing Association Level Two Star boxing official status.
The referee/judge was yesterday presented with his badge at the Boxing Control Board following his involvement the African Zone IV Boxing Championships that ended on Sunday in Gaborone.
The 43-year-old said he was honoured to be able to represent his country at international events.
“I’m very pleased and very proud to be recognised as a Level two Star referee/judge,” said Petrus, a former national amateur boxer. “This is not only good for me but for Namibia also.”
Amateur Boxing Federation secretary general Joe Kaperu said Namibia needed more officials like Petrus in order to grow the sport.
