FEMALE lawmakers-elect in Ekiti State have pledged to be diligent in their job and pursue the cause of women in the Legislature.

The three women elected into the Ekiti State House of Assembly on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) are Mrs. Olajide Ayotunde (Moba II), Mrs. Dupe Olayinka (Ado II) and Wunmi Ogunlola (Ijero).

They spoke in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday evening when the state’s ACN Women Leader, Mrs. Ronke
Okusanya, led them to visit the governor’s wife,  Mrs. Bisi Fayemi.

The in-coming lawmakers appealed for more women’s representation in the government of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, especially at the local councils, so that they can contribute to the development of the state.

Mrs. Fayemi, who is the president of African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), cautioned against rubber stamp Legislature in the state and advised the House to be constituted next month to perform creditably.

The ruling ACN won 24 of the 26 seats in the House while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won two slots.

She also advised the women to ensure that democracy thrives during their tenure and not to succumb to the idea of allowing the House to be turned into a rubber-stamp institution.
