Country’s Positive Economic Strides

The positive economic strides that Zambia has experienced in the last two years are not just a populist statement as some critics of the Government want people to believe.

In its statements on the matter, the Government is discussing real issues which are there for all to see across the country.

The Copperbelt Province yesterday witnessed the commissioning of theK1 trillion township roads rehabilitation programme.

This is a project that will see roads in most townships being improved. The launch of this programme is in response to the continued appeals by the people of the Copperbelt to have their roads rehabilitated.

Currently there are road works going on in almost every district across the country and this attention given to the Copperbelt particularly for township roads is clearly a Government response tothe needs of the people.

It is a fact that most township roads on the Copperbelt and other provinces are in a deplorable state and this negatively affected the residents.

The Copperbelt has some of the best and well serviced major roads in Zambia but the township roads have been left unattended to for a long time.

But the residents will now appreciate the direct benefits of the positive economic strides by having accessible roads.

The township roads to be rehabilitated include those in Luanshya,Ndola, Kitwe, Mufulira, Chingola, Kalulushi and Chililabombwe.

This exciting gesture by the Government coincided with the ground breaking ceremony of a new US$690 million cobalt and copper mining project in Kalulushi by President Rupiah Banda yesterday.

While the province has seen growth in the mining industry, there has been little tandem improvement to the township roads which had made some residents question this skewed development.

With the launch of the new Ichimpe Mine on the same day as the commissioning of the repair works of peri-urban roads, residents in the province will appreciate that the development initiated by the Government is well rounded.

The opening of the mine is one of the many positive investments taking place on the Copperbelt and residents should expect more to come.

It is clear that Zambia has now become the best investment destination in the region as it inspires more people because of the promising political and social environment that the current Government has sustained.
