Birmingham City striker Kevin Phillips has revealed a speech by a Blues supporter has given the club all the motivation they need to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Birmingham sit 17th in the table, knowing only a victory over Tottenham at White Hart Lane on the final day of the season will ensure survival, or they risk relying on results elsewhere going their way.

The 37-year-old said the players were moved by a call to arms from the club’s Supporter Of The Year at the Blues’ end of season dinner.

“The players attended the club’s Awards Dinner this week and the winner of the Supporter Of The Year award gave a brilliant speech,” Phillips said.

“It confirmed to everyone how much passion there is for the club and how much it means to supporters to stay in the Premiership.

“The players were really moved by it and we’ll be doing everything possible to make sure we stay up.”

Meanwhile, Wolves legend Steve Bull is backing his former club, and Birmingham’s midlands rivals, to beat the drop.

He said: “Wolves have turned the corner at just the right time and I hope and believe they can survive now.

“Mick McCarthy has this knack of pulling results out when they’re needed and he’s done it in the last few weeks.

“To be honest, I want Birmingham to stay up too so we can keep having midlands derbies all through the season.”
