AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has given a detailed account of the club’s summer transfer plans, but suggested that a signing spree of top stars was unlikely, with Tottenham’s Rafael van der Vaart

The supremo appeared to rule out moves for players such as Javier Pastore, Ganso, and Marek Hamsik, while he said the market was likely to be used as a tool to smooth over certain areas of the team.

Philippe Mexes and Taye Taiwo have already agreed to Bosman moves to San Siro, and Galliani told the press: “We are looking for a left midfielder, and if no-one leaves up front then we are complete. At the back we are complete with Philippe Mexes and Taye Taiwo.

“Pastore, Hamsik and Ganso? No-one gives you anything, and these are flagship players for their clubs.”

Van der Vaart has been linked with the Serie A champions, but when asked whether the club were considering a move for the Dutchman, he added: “I don’t think so.”

Andrea Pirlo announced his departure from Milan after a 10-year stay on Wednesday, but Galliani feels his absence will have a minimal affect on the team, particularly if Massimo Ambrosini agrees to a new contract.

“Everything has a beginning and an end, and this was a technical choice,” he said. “Our coach is thinking of playing someone else in front of Mark Van Bommel. If Massimo Ambrosini signs his deal like I hope then he will alternate with Van Bommel.”
