Gusau -The PDP has filled a petition before the Zamfara Election Petitions Tribunal, challenging the election of Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, the ANPP Governor-elect.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the petition came few hours to the closure of filling of such petitions at the tribunal.
In the petition, a copy of which was made available to NAN, Wednesday in Gusau, the PDP challenged Yari’s election on the ground of not being duly elected by majority of lawful votes.
It also alleged that the respondent did not comply with the Electoral Act, leading to sundry election malpractice.
The PDP is also challenging the qualification of the Governor-elect to contest at the time of the election.
The petition joined INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Idris Funtua, Deputy Governor-elect, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakala, the ANPP, Electoral Officers of Gusau, Gummi, Tsafe, Bungudu, Maru and Bakura Local Governments as respondents
The PDP urged the tribunal to nullify the election and declare Gov. Mahmud Shinkafi as the winner by majority of lawful votes.
Secretary of the tribunal, Hajiya Hannatu Bello, confirmed receiving the petition, adding that apart form the PDP, the PPA also filed another action challenging the governorship election.
The PPA’s petition alleged that the party’s logo was missing on the ballot papers even as it fielded a governorship candidate.
PPA is asking the tribunal to nullify the election and order the INEC to conduct a fresh governorship election.
The tribunal also received 11 petitions by the ANPP, challenging the election in 10 seats of the state House of Assembly and the Zurmi/Shinkafi Federal Constituency.
The Assembly seats being challenged include Zurmi East and West, Kauran Namoda North and South, Shinkafi, Birnin Magaji as well as Maradun 1 and 2.
The ANPP is challenging the elections on the general ground of alleged certificate forgery and non compliance with Electoral Act.(NAN)
