UNITED Stars look increasingly likely to pip Rundu Chiefs to Premier League promotion from the Northern Stream First Division.

United Stars need only three points from their remaining two fixtures to secure a quick return to the premier division from which they were relegated from last season. They currently lead the NSFD log standings on 44 points garnered from 19 games, with Rundu Chiefs seven points back and a game in hand.

Chiefs had their match against Golden Bees on May 8 abandoned.

The game had to be called-off midway through the second half with the score tied at 1-1 after Golden Bees allegedly held up proceedings in protest of what should have been a second goal for Rundu Chiefs.

“Golden Bees players protested that the ball had not crossed the line,” said NSFD league administrator Bennet Munango. He added that outcome of the match will be resolved by the Disciplinary Committee that is “likely” to sit next Wednesday.

“The final league match can only be played after the outcome of the DC,” he added.

Third placed Golden Bees on 33 points are out of the running for promotion, after failing to collect maximum points on the weekend.

At the opposite end of the table former premier league heavyweights Chiefs Santos are at bottom and look certain to go down after the next round of matches. Santos, who lost both their encounters over the weekend, have only collected 14 points all season and trail second last Epupa 11 Stars by three points, with Young Rangers in tenth position a further two points ahead.
