The Country Will Still be a Safe Tourism Destination Despite the Upcoming Elections

Tourists and foreigners intending to visit Zambia this year have every reason to believe the assurance from President Banda that the country will conduct peaceful elections this year.

There are several reasons why the president spoke with such confidence and chief among these is that the country has been known to be a haven of peace and has held incident-free elections from the post-independence and multi-party politics era.

There are a few in the media and some opposition leaders who would want to create an impression that the country was a no-go area this year because of the likelihood of violence as the case has been in some countries during an election year.

But Zambia has a record of being peaceful and despite the fierce campaigns leading to the polling date, these do not degenerate into violence.

This is not to say that the country has not experienced sporadic riots, but history does attest to how stable Zambia is.

The challenge is on all Zambians who cherish peace to ensure this untainted record is not broken and that the country continues to attract visitors even in an election year.
