Missing University of Nairobi Student Found in Tanzania

A 24-year-old engineering student from the University of Nairobi who disappeared from the institution in March, was found in Tanzania.

Peter Kamau arrived in Mombasa from Tanzania yesterday. His father Henry Gikonyo received him from Kenyan police officers.

Kamau’s family had been looking for him since his disappearance and travelled to Lunga Lunga in Tanzania to confirm if indeed it was Peter, and bring him home.

The student who disappeared on March 18 was found last Tuesday, but could not comprehend what was going on around him.

Tears of joy flowed after father and son were reunited in Mombasa.

Gikonyo said he received a call last Saturday informing him that Kamau was alive and well in a foreign country.

“I was called by his colleague, and he even gave me details about my son, so eventually, we had to come and confirm whether it was him,” the father said.

According to Gikonyo, Peter only recalls the last time when he was at the university and cannot explain how he ended up in Tanzania.

A good Samaritan is said to have picked him up after he was found near a forest.

The family took Kamau to Aga Khan hospital since he appeared weak and could not digest solid food.

“We are happy that he is alive but he cannot speak or even eat, he seems quite weak for now,” Gikonyo said.
