Windhoek — Meatco’s Ekwatho Financing Scheme expects to draw more participants through information sharing by hosting an information day on May 24 at Farm Elhorst.
The Financing Scheme, which provides producers with a platform to change over from weaner production to slaughter cattle production, is expected to lead to skills development for producers as they learn to manage a new production system.
“A practical demonstration on grading and selecting the right cattle for ox production and slaughter will also be held. This day creates awareness about the challenges facing ox producers and will offer advice on how to farm profitably with oxygen,” says Meatco.
During the information day, issues such as an overview of challenges facing the Namibian agricultural industry, agricultural outlook from a banker’s perspective and growth potential of cattle under extensive farming conditions would be addressed, followed by a practical demonstration on grading and selection of the perfect slaughter ox.
Speakers joining forces to teach and share experience on the day are Dr Joggie Briedenhann, Siggi von Luettwitz, Andrew Deacon (Producer), M. Jurgens Twyman (FNB Agricultural Manager for the Namibian Central Region) and Mr. Kay-Dieter Rumpf (Chairman of the Livestock Producers Organisation)
Ekwatho Financing Scheme was introduced by Meatco to curb the outflow of weaners out of the country. Described by Meatco as a “unique achievement”, the Financing Scheme expects to draw more producers to participate in the scheme.
Representatives of banks that support the Ekwatho project would also be present to clarify information and issues that are not clear to producers.
