One hundred and sixty thousand children have become orphans since HIV and AIDS was detected in the country in 1986. Dr Fred Nana Poku, Technical Manager of the Ghana AIDS Commission made this known at a day's regional review meeting of stakeholders in the health sector in Sekondi. Dr Poku said the situation called for a pragmatic approach involving stakeholders to ensure that the menace was reduced drastically

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Aniekan Umana, has advised those protesting the victory of Governor Godswill Akpabio to, instead of crying foul, follow due process by going to election tribunals.

Speaking over the weekend in Abuja, Umana dismissed allegation that Akwa Ibom State government is intimidating opposition parties, particularly Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as an assumption.

He said the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was rather intimidated by ACN because of the intimidating record of PDP which has been controlling the state since 1999.

He said no party has the structure on ground in Akwa Ibom to dislodge the PDP, stressing that those crying foul about the outcome of the election are members of the ruling party in blood.

“Don’t forget they are PDP in blood. They just need clothing under the guise of another party to actualise their personal agenda. If I may ask when did they leave PDP. Some left in December last year. For those who are crying foul, there is no need for them to make noise because there is procedure for them to follow by going to the election tribunals,” he said.
