THE stage is set for the Nyanza secondary school games this morning to Saturday in Migori. The five-day games will feature athletics, netball, handball and 15s rugby, and will be staged at St. Pius Uriri, Migori stadium and Migori Teachers College.
Students from Nyamira and Kisii Counties are expected to dominate athletics. Nyanza Secondary Schools Sports Association assistant secretary Hezron Obike said upsets are expected in rugby, handball and netball. “We expect upsets here. The games have always been thrilling and we expect new winners,” he said. In netball, holders Obambo, who are also the national runners-up, will open their title defence against former holders Kisumu Girls tomorrow in a Pool “C” match. Today, Got Abiero will face off with Ogande while Nyakach Girls will play Nyarach. In boys’ handball, Sawagongo will play Lambwe from Suba while Machururiati will play Nyando. In girls’ handball, Marindi from Nyamira will face Sega while Isamwera confront Sae from Rachuonyo. In netball, Pool ‘A’ has Nyoera, Ong’incha, Kopale while Pool ‘B’ comprise Mobamba, Nyantaribe and Nyabohanse.
Obambo, Kisumu Girls and representatives from Nyamira county are in pool C while Pool ‘D’ has Got Abiero, Nyarach, Ogande and Nyakach Girls.
