Health Minister Meets With Bill Gates

Luanda — Angola’s minister of Health, José Van-Dúnem, on Tuesday here in briefed Bill Gates, the co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation on the Government efforts in the fight against poliomyelitis eradication, fight against malaria and HIV/AIDS, Angop has learnt.

The meeting took place in the fringes of the 64th world assembly on health, taking place in the UN palace, during which the Angolan official highlighted the commitment of the President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the fight against poliomyelitis and hunger.

José Van-Dúnem spoke on the challenges in matters of financing and some constrains in the fight against the mentioned illnesses in areas of difficult access, as well as conditions of sanitation, mainly in the provinces of Cabinda and Kuando-Kubango.

The minister also reminded that vaccination campaigns against poliomyelitis carried out by the government, with positive results, but added that vigilance must be reinforced.

The Angolan official is participating on Wednesday, in a meeting of the Ministers of the Non-aligned Countries, meant to debate and adapt a project of declaration related to the reinforce of the international health system: Reinforce of the global solidarity against pandemic illnesses, treatment of health and financing of universal coverage system.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the biggest charity institution in the world created in 2000.
