An aide to the ex-chairman, Mr. Julius Gabriel, told our reporter yesterday that the robbers carried sophisticated guns and stormed the apartment at about 3 am, while everybody in the place were sleeping.
According to him, the robbers gained entrance into the premises by scaling the fence and attacking the security man, who was hit on the head with a hard object and his gun removed from him.
He said the robbers held occupants of the building including a maid hostage and searched all the rooms before leaving with handsets, plasma television and jewelleries.
“The occupants, who were asked to lie face down on the ground, were guarded at gun point by three robbers, while the rest ransacked the rooms.”
Efforts to contact the ex-Kwali council boss, Danlami Yebu, was not successful and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gwagwalada, Chief Superintendent Charles Mozie, said he was not aware of the robbery incident as it was not reported to the police.
In another development, a police highway patrol team in the wee hours of yesterday morning foiled a robbery attack at Awawa village, along Kwali-Lokoja road.
A mobile police officer at NNPC pumping station in Awawa said the robbers, numbering seven, blocked the road with heavy logs of wood but were dislodged by the patrol team.
He said the robbers had fired a shot into the air in order to begin operation, when he contacted the highway patrol team, adding that before the patrol team arrived, the robbers had fled into the bush.
Our reporter who visited the scene yesterday morning, saw heavy logs of wood by the roadside.
Kwali Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Olubunmi Ogedengbe, could not be reached for comment but a senior police officer confirmed the attempted robbery incident but said the police responded promptly to a distress call and did not encounter the robbers, who fled into a bush.
