Luanda — The deputy minister of Technology and Information, Pedro Teta, Monday in Luanda, said that the media libraries network (REMA) will not substitute the libraries as they can co-exist together and boost the knowledge society.
Pedro Teta was speaking at the Angolan Forum on Information and Communication Technologies.
“Media libraries will not substitute the libraries, as they can co-exist within the same space, being the media libraries a priority, given their bibliographic updating capacity,” he stated.
According to Pedro Teta, media libraries are much more than mere services of access to physical infrastructures or to endogenous digital information. They are, above all, depositary of scientific knowledge.
He said that media libraries will be established in the coming 12 months in Soyo, Luanda, Saurimo, Huambo, Lubango and Benguela, in a number that will reach 25 until 2012, that is about six a year.
The official said the first six will be built until June 2012, as part of a Government effort to provide Angolans with a territory, economic and social development instrument to promote and improve the access to knowledge for all.
He said the purpose of the project is to strengthen knowledge, cultivate creativity and innovation in political, social, educational, scientific, cultural and economic fields.
The Angolan Forum on Information and Communication Technology that is being held as part of the celebrations of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is intended to boost the use of the ICTs as a contribution to digital inclusion and the country’s socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, the minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology said the workshop is intended to create an environment for a wide exchange of knowledge on how the ICT boost the new social behaviour standards.
The event is being attended by Government official, staff of the ministry and members of the civil society.
