Sudanese Cross Border to Pray for Locals

At least 100 Christians from southern Sudan, including clerics, have crossed the border district of Lamwo to pray for Ugandans in this turbulent time of the walk-to-work campaign and high cost of living.

The Sudanese said the problems Ugandans are facing deserve constant prayers to guarantee God’s blessing. The clerics and their followers are currently combing the sub-counties of Agoro, Madi-Opei, Lokung and Palabek Kal in their compassionate efforts.

The Rev. Ronald Rombe told this newspaper that they are also praying for the current economic crisis, including the hike in fuel and other commodity prices to normalise.

“As our good neighbours, we want heavenly intervention so that Uganda enjoys the peace it enjoyed before,” he said. TheLC3 Chairman of Agoro Sub-county, Mr Benedict Owali, on Sunday said they have welcomed the Sudanese in the area because they believe team prayers would yield result for Ugandans.

“Since this is a trying moment for Ugandans, we are jointly praying with them so that God can bless us from the problems we are going through,” Mr Owali said.

United in suffering

Pastor Michael Odongkara, who led the group to Uganda, said they expect the prayers to instil positive attitudes in both the government and the protestors so that they seek peaceful means to ending the unrest that have since claimed at least 15 lives since April 11.

“Uganda as a country needs prayers, that is why we crossed from Sudan to pray here,” Pastor Odongkara said.

The protests that were started by Action for Change, a pressure group led by opposition leaders, seek to pressurise the government to subsidise on fuel prices and commodity tax to reduce prices for the good of the common man.
