Sao Tome President Congratulates Jonathan

Abuja — President of Sao Tome and Principe, Patrice Emery Trouoada was in Abuja Friday to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan on his victory at the April presidential election.

He used the occasion to make a case for Africa to have an influential voice at the United Nations especially in matters that concern Africa and posited that the conflicts in Libya, Ivory Coast and other parts of the continent.

He said latest events in Africa had shown that the continent can resolve her own conflicts, but stressed the need for a legal framework that would afford African countries such opportunities of internally addressing touchy issues.

He said Jonathan’s victory was a pointer to the fact that Africa had come of age and could conduct her own credible elections.

Trouoada commended Nigeria, saying she has made Africa proud with its elections and added that it would now be a reference point from which other African countries will draw strength from the exercise to do well in future election.

On the joint venture being pursued between Nigeria and Sao Tome especially in the oil and gas sector, he said it was awaiting the proper framework and hoped to start yielding results in 2014 when oil would have been struck.

He said in the bid rounds just concluded, a Nigerian company Oranto Nigeria Plc won and was already on the way to exploring crude oil in that country.
