Speaker Edward Ssekandi closed the 8th Parliament yesterday midday, advising MPs to understand the current multi-party system, which is different from the single party system.
Mr Ssekandi, however, first gave the few MPs in attendance opportunity to give parting shots which turned emotional.
Most of those who spoke asked for tolerence to divergent views on the floor of the House. Others commented on the events of the Thursday swearing-in ceremony and the chaos that was Entebbe Road as the FDC president returned to the country.
“Dr Besigye fought with most of you in the bush war and saved some of you. Please respect and don’t mistreat him,” Aswa county MP Reagan Okumu said.
“I have already signed the proclamation showing that Parliament will end on May 18,” said Ssekandi.
