Ledley King hopeful of no injury setbacks after starting Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool

Ledley King is hopeful of feeling no repercussions in his troublesome groin after making his first start since October 2010 in Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Liverpool.

The centre-back, who had not featured for Spurs since their 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, was back in action after knee and groin problems kept him out of contention for the majority of the season.

King has admitted taking part at Anfield was a risk, but was glad to be back in match action.

“It’s never nice to be injured but I always felt I would be able to overcome the injury,” the Spurs captain told the club’s official website.

“It was niggling away and then it became a bigger problem. I wasn’t sure when I was going to be back because it kept dragging and dragging.

“It’s been seven months and a nightmare. I wasn’t sure whether or not to leave it until next season or try this game but we decided to give it a go and it worked out in the end.

“I’ve got a good relationship with the manager and we spoke just before kick-off, thankfully I did take the risk and hopefully I’ll have no ill effects.”

King was pleased with the team performance in overcoming a resurgent Liverpool and moving back to fifth in the Premier League.

He added: “I thought the team were brilliant. It’s a tough place to go, especially with the way they have been playing of late with a new manager and it was important we started the game on the front foot.

“We got off to a good start, they put pressure on towards the end but we scored goals at the right times and it was a great team effort and we held on.”

King could now be in contention to face Birmingham City in the final game of the season on Sunday.
