Inmates Flee as Colleagues Splash Police With Faeces

Twenty suspected criminals yesterday made a dramatic escape from Ukwala police station cells in Ugenya district as their colleagues splashed policemen with human waste. Drama unfolded at the police station as the policemen, who were overpowered by the suspects, made frantic efforts to call for reinforcement as the inmates scattered in different directions.

According to eye witnesses, the early morning episode started when a policeman opened the cells and ordered two inmates to carry a bucket

full of human faeces to a nearby pit latrine.

The witness said that since the police cells do not have functioning toilets, the inmates are forced to relieve themselves in buckets which

are usually emptied in the morning. “It is a routine that the inmates first empty the buckets before engaging in cleaning the cells, offices and compound at the police station,” said the source who sought anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to the media.

As the inmates headed to the toilets, a few metres from the main building housing the cells, an inmate turned on the unsuspecting policeman, and emptied the contents on him.

The policeman staggered to the ground as the two inmates bolted out at high speed into nearby villages. The inmates who were left in the cells with the doors open dashed out and caught a policeman at the report desk that they gave a thorough beating before taking off. A team of senior police officers, led by the Siaya CID boss Kariuki Ngugi rushed to the area and were still combing the nearby villages in search of the escapees.
