Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez has revealed he is tempted to stay and help make the Eastlands club genuine Premier League title challengers in the wake of their FA Cup triumph, but that the decision will be made in the best interests of his family.

Roberto Mancini’s side overcame Stoke City 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday to end the club’s 35-year wait for silverware, thanks to Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure’s emphatic finish 16 minutes from time.

The triumph provides the perfect end to a highly successful week for City, who had already secured Champions League football next season by beating Tottenham Hotspur at Eastlands on Tuesday evening.

City are expected to spend lavishly this summer as they look to build on the success of this campaign with a title challenge next term, and Tevez admitted that despite handing in a transfer request back in December, he could yet be persuaded to remain at the club by the possibility of further glories to come.

“Winning the title is a great motivation for me to stay, it would make me so happy,” the 27-year-old Argentine told reporters.

“It is what we all want and need – although now it’s time to celebrate winning the cup.

“Here we are trying to build a team to win trophies including the Premier League and we are focusing on that.

“But we remember very well that flag at Old Trafford which taunts City.

“Now it makes me very happy that they will have to take it down.”

However, Tevez also commented that his future remains to be decided, and that family commitments could yet see him leave England.

“It’s a decision that I have to make with my family, who are the priority. I don’t have problems with anyone at the club. Things are fine with Mancini and everyone.

“There are no problems. The only reason is that my kids are a long distance away from Manchester and if there is an option to go then it will be something to do with my family and children. It would be a personal decision rather than a professional one.
 
“Yes, in terms of distance it is the same in Italy or Spain as England, but it is not only the distance that matters.

“It’s not a matter of changing my mind. Everyone knows that in December we had some problems with the directors of the club. As everyone knows, we had a meeting, we discussed various things and now it’s a thing I need to discuss with my family.

“I don’t know if I am going to leave or not, if I’m going to Spain or Italy or somewhere else. I have a great relationship with Mancini, we are both winners and want to achieve more things for the club. We have a good relationship off the pitch and in the professional sense. Sometimes there were some problems between us but I think that happens everywhere and we want to be successful.”

City boss Roberto Mancini insists Tevez remains a central part of his plans, but only if the Argentine remains totally committed to the club.

“Yes, Carlos is part of our plans,” he said.

“It’s important for everyone to work with the team, to give everything if you believe in this project of ours.

“You do your job, I do mine. If I don’t want to stay, I leave this place.”

When asked whether he thought his captain was saying goodbye to City fans at Wembley, the Italian replied: “I don’t know. Ask him.”
