Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs insists that his first Premier League triumph meant more to him than surpassing Liverpool‘s title record.
The Red Devils veteran has won 12 Premier League titles in his career and is the most decorated player in the history of English football.
The 37-year-old has been an integral part of the club’s successful quest to surpass Liverpool’s record of 18 top-flight titles, and started in the 1-1 draw to secure the Premier League away to Blackburn on Saturday.
Now the experienced Welshman insists that his first taste of success in the Premier League remains the best so far, whilst hailing manager Sir Alex Ferguson for his accomplishments.
“To overhaul Liverpool is an incredible achievement by the players and further testament, if any was needed, to what a great Âmanager Sir Alex Ferguson is,” Giggs told The Mirror.
“But I still think the first title in 1993 had more significance. To wait 26 years to win it was far too long for a club like ÂUnited.
“And there was no doubt the pressure to secure it was Âunbearable at times and became a millstone around the players’ necks. I think your first title is always special, it certainly was for me. I had grown up watching the great Liverpool sides dominate domestic and European football in the 70s and 80s.
“Despite all the rivalry between the two clubs you couldn’t argue with their success. At the time Âno-one could live with them.”
