Operation Blessing (the humanitarian arm of the Christian Broadcasting Network-CBN Africa) recently commissioned a vocational skill acquisition centre in Wuna village, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Working in collaboration with DPat Foundation, a community-based organization, the centre will train young women in skills ranging from sewing, bead-making, catering, hair dressing and production of interior décor.
Speaking at the event, President and CEO of DPat Foundation, Deaconess Patience Ardey commended Operation Blessing for the support it had given in helping DPat Foundation realize its dream of empowering women in the community with sustainable skills. “Operation Blessing has been in the forefront, supporting us so we can help the young women in Wuna community achieve something in life. The skills they will learn here will go a long way in providing an extra income for their households,” she said.
In his response, Darrell Williams, a CBN International staff, thanked the people of Wuna for receiving them and told the trainees that the best thing to come out of their training would be the ability to help others.
“The greatest blessing from what you acquire here will not be the income you generate but rather, the people you are able to help from what you receive,” he told them. He also explained that CBN helps people in similar situations all over the world.
The Chief of Wuna village, Madaki Gwamna expressed appreciation to the Operation Blessing team for helping the community’s youth saying, “…. As a result of what you are doing in our community, our women and youths are learning how to make something better of their lives.”
Operation Blessing donated 10 sewing machines to the centre, knitting machines and helped refurbish the building which the community donated for the empowerment centre.
DPat Foundation will provide instructors in catering, sewing, hairdressing and interior decoration.
