Birmingham City striker Kevin Phillips knows his team need to play the game of their lives at Tottenham next Sunday if they are to stay in the Premier League.

The Bluenoses lost 2-0 at home to Fulham in their penultimate game of the season to leave Alex McLeish’s side above the drop zone on by just a goal difference of one.

The Cottagers took the lead after just five minutes through a Brede Hangeland headed goal and the Norwegian doubled Fulham’s just after the break with a volleyed effort just inside the area.

Phillips himself was barely in the frame to get his name on the score-sheet and knows his side have to double their efforts at least on the final day of the season against Spurs to even stand a chance of staying in the top-flight.

“We’re naturally disappointed,” he told Sky Sports News. “There’s nothing we can do about it now, all we can do now is go to White Hart Lane and try to put in a performance.

“We know what we’ve got to do, it’s as simple as that. We’ve done it before, we’ve been to many big places before and put in a performance and we need everyone at it next Sunday.”

With West Ham confirmed as the first to be relegated to the Championship, five teams including Birmingham, face the possibility of being the final duo of clubs to join them in England’s second-tier.
