Javier Hernandez has proclaimed that Manchester United are the “best team in the world” after they secured their record breaking 19th Premier League title against Blackburn Rovers.

The striker was clearly delighted at winning the title, something he said he coudn’t even have imagined when he was playing in Mexico.

“It’s brilliant. It’s awesome. I’m very happy,” Hernandez told Sky Sports.

“It’s definitely more than I could have imagined when playing in Mexico. Every game, every day in England, has been happier than I dreamed.

“It’s unbelievable. I have dreamt about this moment and I am enjoying it a lot.

“It really is unbelievable. We’re the best team in the world.”

The Mexican was brought down in the 71st minute by Paul Robinson, with Wayne Rooney converting the penalty to seal a point and secure the title from the penalty spot.

Blackburn were incensed by the decision from Phil Dowd, but Hernandez was confident the referee made the correct call, adding: “No, the contact is there. It was evident and the referee gave it to us.”

Dimitar Berbatov was a late substitute at Ewood Park, despite being the Premier League’s leading scorer, and he revealed his pride at the result.

“Second title, it’s great,” he said. “And even better this season for me because I scored many goals this season so I’ve helped the team win it.

“Hopefully I can play in the last game so I can score a couple more goals.”

Plaudits rained in from former United players alike as well, with Gary Neville commenting that it was “a wonderful achievement”, while Dwight Yorke went on to praise Sir Alex Ferguson for continuing his dominance of English football.

“Words can’t describe Sir Alex, he’s done it all, he’s seen it all,” said Yorke. “You can see the happiness on his face.

“I just think its incredible how he keeps going from strength to strength and he doesn’t seem to stop at all.

“Look at the excitement on his face, it looks like it’s his first title!”

Rio Ferdinand, too, was in high spirits, and praised the team for staying in the match after going behind.

“We missed out last year by a point which was really disappointing,” said Ferdinand.

“Ewood Park was more or less the place where we lost the league last year, so it’s nice to come back here and make up for it.

“We gave away a soft goal, but we managed to stay on our feet and get back up; we made sure we put hard graft in and kept on persevering, and we got our rewards.

“I’m just delighted to be back playing consistently.

“It’s been a hard couple of years being out but now I’ve got good movement and I’ve been working hard on the training field. And if you work hard you get your rewards.

“And it’s just what the fans deserve. They follow us all over the world and support us brilliantly as well.”

United were on the back foot for a lot of the game, and Ferdinand was quick to praise the strength of the Premier League, as well as United’s home record, which has been exemplary this year.

“You know that teams aren’t going to give you a result anywhere, you’ve got to work for them and we had to work hard for this one today,” he said.

“We knew that if we didn’t get the title today then we’d have to go to Old Trafford and get a result. We’ve got a good record there this season so we were confident of winning the title.

“But to get it this week makes it a bit easier for the manager.

“The strength makes for a better league. Teams were beating each other in the league from the bottom to the top, and it makes for more exciting football, and it makes it more exciting for the fans.”

For those fans, Ferdinand had a cautionary word for the celebrations this evening, however. “You’ll have to stay on your feet,” he joked. “Make sure you stay on your feet!”
