Nigeria coach, Samson Siasia, has declared his team will successfully defend the WAFU Nations Cup the country won last year.
Siasia’s team take on a rampant Togo in Saturday’s final at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta and the 43-year-old coach said there will be only one winner on the day.
“I am convinced we are ready to win this WAFU Cup tournament. We have come too far to go back. We can’t go back any more than to move forward. We are ready to win,” Siasia told MTNFootball.com.
However, Siasia’s sixth straight victory in charge did not come easy against perennial rivals Ghana in Thursday’s semi-final.
Ghana took the lead via a penalty before two superb strikes by striker Ekigho Ehiosun catapulted the Eagles ‘B’ team to the championship game.
Ghana coach, David Duncan, would even suggest Nigeria ran away with some home team decisions.
Togo coach, Tchanile Tchakala, said he expects a tough final against Nigeria.
“A match against Nigeria or Ghana is always very tough and classy. Nigeria would be very difficult to beat in the final particularly in the presence of their lovely fans,” he said.
“I would be very happy if we are champions on Saturday, but if the reverse happens, I will still thank God for bringing us thus far.
“We have done so well in this competition. We have achieved our aims, objectives and targets and anything beyond this is extra.”
