Wolves manager Mick McCarthy believes Manchester United cannot field a weakened team against Blackpool

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has admitted he does not care whether Manchester United field a weakened side against relegation-threatened Blackpool on the last day of the season.

The Midlands club may require a favour from the Red Devils come the end of the season to secure their saftey however McCarthy does not think that team selection will be an issue.

He told The Sun: “I’m not bothered, I can’t do anything about it. They beat Schalke with a weakened team and slapped them four. I don’t know if United have a weak team”

McCarthy’s Wolves were handed a suspended £25,000 fine for fielding a weakened team against United only last year.

The Manchester club face Barcelona 6 days after their final league game and Mcarthy believes they would happily accept such a fine in order to keep players fresh for the European tie.

He said: “I’m sure if they can have a fresh team for the Champions League, a 25 grand fine would be worth it.”

A number of managers have stated that the current rules on player selection are inconsistent, believing that they favour large clubs in the Premier League.
