The Nation to Assist the Gambia in Establishing Law School

Abuja — Nigerian Law School on Thursday expressed readiness to use its manpower, logistics and technical resources to assist The Gambia establish its Law School. Director General of Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja, Tahir Mamman, said this during a courtesy visit by a Gambian delegation to his office in Abuja.

According to him, because of the long history of relationship and cooperation between Nigeria and The Gambia, Nigeria would explore all its resources in term of information technology (IT) and manpower support to develop a world class law school in The Gambia.

“We will happily support your bid to establish law school and are ready to assist you in whatever area you may need our assistance,” Mamman stressed. He said his institution would deploy its academic and administrative staff to Gambia to impart knowledge and skills on the students and staff of Gambia Law School. He called on the Chief Justice of Gambia to work out appropriate modalities and framework that would facilitate the smooth take-off of the school.

Mammna charged the Gambian delegation to work out an enabling law which would give a clear structure of funding, identity and functions of the school. While commending the gesture exhibited by Nigeria in strengthening the relationship between the two countries, leader of the delegation and Chief Justice of The Gambia, Emmanuel Agim, said his country was ready to tap from the wealth of experience acquired by Nigeria.

“We would like Nigeria to assist us in the area of administrative structure, school curriculum, Information Technology System facilities, manpower support, academic and administrative staff and library,” Agim stated. According to him, acquiring such expertise from Nigeria would place Gambia on the path of a productive legal and academic policy.
