‘Speed Up Job Creation’

Windhoek — The councillor for Mariental Urban, Barachias Namwandi, wants money set aside for job creation to be used for the intended purpose.

The money should be used as budgeted for and not returned to treasury.

Namwandi was contributing to the 2011-2011 budget in the National Council on Wednesday.

He said he supports the allocation of N$14.7 billion for job creation, which aims to create 104000 direct and indirect job opportunities.

“This will not only be seen as Government’s effort, but as the effort involving all development partners,” he said. “As we noticed last week, the young people were again protesting at the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, particularly those [who] were born in exile, demanding jobs. We hope and trust that the responsible ministries dealing with this money will speed up in order to create jobs for our young people,” Namwandi added.

People are expecting better service delivery from law makers, especially during current circumstances where the global economic downturn has rolled back some of the advances made in accelerating economic growth and development, he said.

“We must therefore make our maximum contribution to ensure that our country recovers the gains lost through the effects of this crisis, and to put our economy back on the high growth course,” Namwandi said.

He said this year’s development budget reflects once again Government’s desire to achieve maximum results from the national development objectives to ensure socio-economic improvement of the people of Namibia.
